Janson Coffee Farm

Janson Farm is a family-run farm run by the Janson family. It is located on the west side of Panama, at the eastern end of the Talamanca Mountains, on the slopes of the Tichingal and Baru volcanoes. With an average altitude of 1,350-1,700m, the farm's microclimate provides the perfect environment for growing coffee.

Janson Farm is a farm that was purchased in the early 1940s by Carl Janson, a Swede who was captivated by the land of Volcano. Under the slogan "Quality production with harmony with nature," the farm continues to cultivate coffee without the use of pesticides or herbicides, maintaining the nutrient balance of the soil using only enzyme microorganisms.

The cultivation area is divided into small lots for traceability and quality control. The energy used on the farm is generated by solar energy obtained from 400 solar panels, and all surplus materials generated during the production process are used as fuel and fertilizer.

Janson Farm also utilizes advanced technology to produce high-quality coffee while being mindful of the environment. In 1993, they built Beneficio, a production and processing facility dedicated to specialty coffee. It is designed to sort coffee by quality and growing area. They combine artisanal techniques with advanced technology in their production and processing. In addition to this production and processing facility, the farm also has a roasting facility to aim for higher cup scores.

Janson Farm cultivates Catuai, Caturra, Pacamara, and Geisha varieties. The Geisha is particularly outstanding, continuing to win awards at competitions and becoming known worldwide as "Janson Geisha." Approximately 50% of the farm's cultivation area is dedicated to Geisha cultivation, making it the second largest Geisha producing farm in Panama. This is an amazing farm that continues to produce high-quality coffee while coexisting with nature.

    Story

Finca Rosma is located in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, at an altitude of 1,500–1,900 meters. The land was purchased by Freddy Morales's father in 1963, and today, Freddy and his sons manage the farm. They continue to focus on quality improvement through collaboration with local producers, while also supporting environmental initiatives and the local community.

"ROSMARAGO" is a unique variety exclusive to Finca Rosma, born from the natural cross-pollination of Maragogype, which was originally planted on the farm, and Pacamara, which was planted later. Named after the farm itself, this coffee is the product of that accidental discovery.

     From the Online Shop Manager

It was a unanimous favorite among all the staff present!

After one sip, we all said, "It's so sweet! Floral! And a wonderful mouthfeel!"
You can really taste the fruity flavors, yet the finish is clean, making it very easy to drink.
I’ve decided this will be my go-to coffee for a while.

This coffee is from Finca Rosma in Guatemala, which our head roaster, Maeda, visited last April.

Finca Rosma is located in Huehuetenango, a famous coffee producing region in Guatemala.
In 1963, Alejandro Morales, father of current owner and dentist Freddy Morales, purchased the land where coffee trees were originally planted. Morales inherited the property in 1980, and his passion for coffee led him to start full-scale coffee production.

When he inherited the farm, there was no road leading to it, so the only way to get there was by donkey, a distance that took an hour to walk.
He then took over in the early 1990s and worked with the nearby farming community to build roads that not only improved access to the farms but also made life easier for the people living in the surrounding areas today.
In addition, to produce high-quality coffee, we have purchased the rights to a water source approximately 5km away, allowing us to use clean water for production processing.

We cup over 1,000 samples a year and conduct daily research into processes and cultivation in our pursuit of high-quality coffee.

Morales is also working with smallholder farmers in the area on a coffee quality improvement project.
Their goal is to spread the excellence of coffee from the Huehuetenango region to the world. To that end, they say that continuing to produce together with their fellow members is a major motivation. "The coffee produced not only on our farm, but also on the small farms around us, is part of Losmah," Morales' sons Alejandro and Freddy said during a cupping session in November 2024, conveying their strong desire to improve the quality of the entire region.
Their dedication and passion is evident in their constant pursuit of producing high-quality coffee, and that passion is clearly evident in each and every cup of coffee.

This is what it was like when we held a cupping session with REC COFFEE.
Not only were we able to hear such valuable stories, but it was also a truly wonderful time to actually exchange opinions while cupping with the producers! The two of them said they love sweet things. Despite their limited schedule, they also enjoyed cakes from "SAISON DES RÉCOLTES," a patisserie brand from REC COFFEE!
