REC COFFEE Hakata Marui Shop opened in 2016 along with the opening of the OIOI (Marui) shopping complex located within KITTE Hakata, adjacent to Hakata Station.

Hakata | 博多
Hakata Station, one of Fukuoka's most famous tourist spots, is the gateway to Kyushu and is always bustling with people.
This complex station building is home to Fukuoka's delicious food and latest trends, and is also a popular outing spot for locals!
Canal City Hakata is within a 10-minute walk, where you can enjoy a fountain show along with the illuminations. I think most Hakata residents' first dates are at Canal City!

Inside the Hakata Marui shop
The clean interior, based on white and wood grain tones that match the atmosphere of the Marui building, is an open space with no partition separating it from the HMV (record and book store) next door.
From the window seats in the back, you can get a panoramic view of the square in front of Hakata Station as seen from the 6th floor.

Espresso machine
At REC COFFEE, the espresso machines installed vary depending on the store.
We also recommend enjoying the unique characteristics of espresso produced by each machine!
The espresso machine at the Hakata Marui shop is the SIMONELLI Aurelia T3.
Simonelli is also the official manufacturer of the 2012-2014 WBC (World Barista Championship).
This unique technology changes the flavor and sweetness and cuts the bitterness that occurs later in the extraction process.

Staff Interview
To find out more about the Hakata Marui shop, we interviewed a barista who actually works there!
We spoke with Shiramizu-san from the Hakata Marui shop.
What kind of stories will you hear?

Hakata Marui shop exclusive product
- So, let's get started. Please tell us about a menu item that you would say "You have to order this!" when you come to the Hakata Marui shop.
Shiramizu: The "Thick-Cut Honey Toast," available only at the Hakata Marui shop, is extremely popular among women.
▲Thick-sliced honey toast
The loaf of bread is 5cm thick and looks quite large, but it's surprisingly easy to eat.
Everyone who was worried about whether they could eat it when they ordered it has finished it all. Lol There are cuts in the dough to make it easier to eat, and the honey seeps into them, making it the best!
The recommended way to eat it is to leave the white part of the bread as is and dip the crust into the coffee soft serve ice cream that comes with it!
For coffee, we recommend the black coffee "Ethiopian Washed" !

Hakata Marui shop staff recommended seats
- After ordering, it's time to choose a seat. Are there any seats you recommend?
Izumi: The most popular seats among our customers are the ones by the windows with a view.

Furthermore, it is the seat at the very back on the left, which is in a blind spot from the entrance.
There's a sense of isolation and calm.
This is a popular seating area where you can enjoy the illuminations at night and the events held in the square during the day.
My personal recommendation is the seats with green chairs, because they are soft and comfortable!

This is the only place that can beat other shops!
- Next, please tell us what the selling points of the Hakata Marui shop are that make it "unbeatable!"
Izumi: It's a hungry spirit that's never satisfied with the status quo!
Many of the staff are artisan-minded, and they bring various brewing equipment to test the taste of the coffee.
It feels more like a hobby.

Also, because it is located in a commercial facility, we have a particularly large number of customers visiting our coffee shop, even among REC COFFEEs.
On weekends, our staff will be on hand to help you find a seat so that as many people as possible can enjoy their coffee.
Even if it looks full at first glance, there may actually be empty seats, so please ask a staff member.
Even if the restaurant is full, a seat may become available while you are waiting in line at the register, so please don't give up!!
Daily life at the Hakata Marui shop
- Finally, a little story.
Please tell us some common stories from the Hakata Marui shop!
Shiramizu: The Marui store has many overseas customers, so many of our staff are interested in languages like English and Korean and have begun studying them.
It's also great that you can immediately put into practice the language you've learned.
Also, this is just a secret, but I get excited when I pass famous people who are there for events in the back hallway.

Thank you, Shiramizu-san, for sharing this fun story that only a commercial facility can tell!
Please come visit us at the Hakata Marui shop, where you can stop by as soon as you arrive in Fukuoka or just before you leave!
