International Coffee Day is a day to celebrate the diversity, quality, and passion of the coffee industry, to support millions of coffee farmers, and for us coffee lovers to share our love for coffee!
The ICO also conducts annual campaigns to improve the working conditions and incomes of producers and make coffee sustainable.

Even before this commemorative day was established, countries had their own coffee days, but did you know that **Japan was actually the first country to establish a coffee day**?
The Roots of Coffee Day
In Japan, the All Japan Coffee Association established October 1st as "Coffee Day" in 1983.This event was held more than 30 years before the International Coffee Organization established it, and **is said to be the origin of Coffee Day**.
After that, coffee anniversaries and events were held in various countries, most of which were on September 29th.
However, the long-awaited global coffee day is **October 1st, just like Japan!**
The Japanese coffee industry is overjoyed!
Why October 1st is Coffee Day
The coffee new year is set to begin in October, in line with the coffee harvest and shipping season.
This is set according to the harvest season in Brazil, the largest coffee-producing country, where most coffee beans are harvested by the end of September.
Coffee beans harvested after this are called **new crop**.
New crop coffee beans have a high moisture content, making them difficult to roast, but they are important for specialty coffee, where the flavor and acidity are beautifully brought out.
